Research, development and innovation in urban water management
Description: The biological techniques by activated sludge are the most used in waste water treatments. The characterisation of this process influences multiple variants, like the design of the Waste Water Treatment Plant itself, characteristics and concentration of sludge, concentration of dissolved oxygen and characteristics of waste water, including temperature and nutrients. A collection of mathematical formulae is presented and applied to the modelling of the Waste Water Treatment Plant, enabling the design or reproduction of its functions, as well as carrying out tests in order to discover the most significant parameters and, thus optimising its functioning.
